Unfortunately, no. Handgun transfers are restricted to the state in which the recipient resides. This means that you can receive a rifle or shotgun order at that closer, out-of-state dealer, but the transfer of any handgun or NFA item must occur in-state.
This applies to online sales and in-person sales alike. One could go to a closer, out-of-state gun store and find "the perfect handgun", but they can't take it home until it is transferred to an in-state FFL that will complete the transfer to the individual.
